New Delhi, April 5: A National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Guwahati on Thursday convicted a National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) terrorist Gautam Mahalia in connection with December 2014 terror attack that killed five people and injured another five in Pakiriguri village under Serfanguri Police Station in Kokrajhar district of Assam.
The NIA Court after allowing the petition of the accused for pleading guilty of the offence under sections 19 and 39 of Unlawful Activity (Prevention) Act(UAPA) read with section 120B of IPC and sentenced accused Gautam Mahalia to four and half years of simple imprisonment on each of two counts and a fine of Rs 10,000 each on two counts.
"The sentences would run concurrently. This is the first conviction in this case and third in the series of cases registered after the ethnic killings carried out by NDFB at various places in Assam in December, 2014", the court order said.
The accused was booked under various sections of IPC and Unlawful Activity (Prevention) Act and the case was registered at Serfanguri Police Station in Kokrajhar district of Assam on December 24, 2014. The accused Mahalia has been in Judicial Custody since his arrest in January, 2015. UNI
