Cong retains sitting MP, names ex-minister in second list for Assam

Guwahati, Mar 19 : The Congress has declared its second list of candidates for Assam Lok Sabha seats.

Names of candidates for five seats were declared by All India Congress Committee yesterday, party sources said here today. Sitting MP of Autonomous Districts, Biren Singh Engti, has been retained as the party's candidate.

Former state Congress president and Rajya Sabha MP Bhubaneswar Kalita will contest from Mangaldai constituency. Former state minister Pradyut Bordoloi has been named for Nagaon, while ex-IAS officer MGVK Bhanu has been fielded from Tezpur.

Youth leader Anil Borgohain has been given the party ticket from Lakhimpur seat. The Congress had earlier announced candidates for five constituencies.

Names for another four seats in the state are yet to be announced by the party. The state will go to the polls in three phases on April 11, 18 and 23.

The Congress had won three out of 14 Lok Sabha seats in the state in 2014 General Elections. UNI
