Guwahati, Feb 18 : The Opposition's attempt to learn of the financial component involved in signing Bollywood actor Priyanka Chopra as Brand Ambassador for Assam Tourism yet again hit the ‘confidentiality’ roadblock today.
Congress MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi, through an unstarred question in the state Legislative Assembly, had sought to know the amount for which Chopra was signed as the Brand Ambassador by the state Tourism department. In his response, state Tourism Minister Chandan Brahma said, “The amount could not be disclosed as per the Agreement with Priyanka Chopra.”
Previous sessions of the Assembly had also witnessed other Opposition MLAs seeking to know the financial details of the contract with Chopra, but it was not shared, citing confidentially clause against divulging of the information.
Chopra had entered into a two-year contract in the end of 2016 as Brand Ambassador for Assam Tourism. The Tourism minister further said number of tourists arrival in the state has been increasing over the years.
The total number of tourists has gone up from 48,83,831 in 2014-15 to 59,66,530 in 2017-18 and was 47,36,710 in 2018-19 (up to December 2018).
