Arunachal: Over 200 candidates file nominations for Assembly, 12 for LS polls

Itanagar, Mar 25 : A total of around 213 candidates including 14 substitute candidates have filed their nomination papers for the forthcoming Assembly polls and 12 candidates for the two Lok Sabha seats in Arunachal Pradesh.

The filing of nominations came to an end on Monday for both the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in the State. Elections to 60 Assembly and two parliamentary seat will be held simultaneously in Arunachal Pradesh on April 11.

In Arunachal West parliamentary constituency, seven candidates have filed their nomination papers while five candidates have filed their nomination papers for the East parliamentary constituency, said Kangki Darang, Additional CEO of Arunachal Pradesh.

Mr Darang said that for the 60 Assembly seats 213 candidates have filed nominations including 14 substitute candidates.

According to the Additional CEO, out of 213 candidates, 64 candidates including four substitute candidates have filed nominations from BJP, Congress 55 (two substitute), People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) six, National People’s Party (NPP) 32 (three substitute), Janata Dal (Secular) 15 (one substitute) and Janata Dal (United) 20 including four substitute candidates.

Mentioning about substitute candidate, Mr Darang said these candidate basically files nomination so that in case of cancellation of nomination of the main candidate, the substitute candidate can fight the elections.

On the last day of nomination, former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki from Congress, Khyoda Apik from NPP, Subu Kechi from PPA, Jomin Nyokir Kara from AIFB ( All India Forward Bloc) and Jarjum Ete from JDS have filed their nominations for Arunachal West Parliamentary constituency.

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju from BJP and Rumak Jomoh as Independent candidate also filed their second set of nomination papers today for the West Parliamentary seat.

For the East Parliamentary seat, five candidates have filed their nomination papers including BJP’s Tapir Gao, JL Wanglat from Congress and Mongol Yomso from PPA. One independent candidate has also filed nomination for this seat. (UNI)
