Malappuram, Nov. 29 : The Kumaranellor Government Higher Secondary School near Edappal in Malappuram district of Kerala has the unique distinction of having two Jnanpith awardees as alumni of the 135-year old educational institution.

The school has produced two literary genius of Malayalam, who won the countrys' top literary honour Jnanpith. Both Akkitham Achuthan Namboodiri (popularly known as Akkitham, who is bestowed with the Jnanpith for 2019 and M T Vasudevan Nair (better known as MT who received the award in 1995) were students of the school.

While Akkitham had his whole schooling in the Kumaranellor GHSS, M T had his high school studies in the school after being relocated from Kudallur in Pattambi. "I was teacher in.the school when we gave a reception to MT on receiving the award. Now, we are going to meet Akkitham, living closeby our school. We went there in the afternoon but he was sleeping", the school headmistress Jayashree said.

Now, the school is gearing up to extend a reception meeting to the veteran Jnanpith awardee, Akkitham. It is all likely that MT would also join the function likely to be held sooner than later. (UNI)
