TranSwaras wins silver medal at Global Music Awards

Kozhikode based Carnatic fusion band TranSwaras has struck silver at the Global Music Awards in the fusion music category.

They have won the silver medal for Anyayamu Seyakuru, a Thyagaraja kriti in Raga Kaapi. It also won the band’s leading vocalist PV Bose the silver medal. This is a huge recognition for the band. Shaaju Vaadiyil whose dream project is this fusion band said, ‘It is indeed a big honour, being recognised by great musicians on a global platform. These silver medals are a great boost for me and the band.’

The Global Music Awards are announced annually to independent musicians chosen from entries around the world. The jury comprises famous musicians including Grammy and Emmy winners.

Shaaju said that it was not easy to present Carnatic music in fusion style but added that there was great scope for this kind of music. They work hard to retain the essence of the kritis that are featured.

The band comprises lead and bass guitars, flute, drums, mridangam and ganjira besides keyboards. They plan to hold their first show in January next.
