New Delhi, Mar 14: Noted Hindi writer Leeladhar Jagudi will be conferred with the Vyas Samman 2018 for his collection of poems 'Jitne Log Utne Prem.'
Mr Jagudi's literary work published in 2103 was short-listed by the five-member selection committee chaired by Dr Vishwanath Prasad Tiwari that also included Professor Ramji Tiwari, Professor Pandey Shashi Bhushan Sitanshu, Professor Rajendra Gautam and Aruna Gupta.
Along with a cash prize of Rs 4 lakh, he will be given a citation. The award was initiated in 1991 by the KK Birla Foundation. In the year 2017, honour was given to Mamta Kalia for her novel 'Dukham Sukkham'.Earlier, Mr Jagudi has been awarded with Sahitya Akademi Award, Akashwani National Award and Uttarakhand Gaurav Samman. He was also awarded Padma Shri in the year 2004.
Born in 1940 in Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand, Mr. Jagudi is a postgraduate in Hindi literature. Due to his interest in writing and reading, he left his job with the army and started teaching in a government school. His famous works include, Shankhmukhi Shikharo Par, Natak Jaari Hai, Raat Ab Bhi Maujood Hai and Bhay Bhi Shakti Deta Hai. (UNI)
