Half of the Covid-19 positive cases reported in 3 districts in AP

Vijayawada, Apr 24: Andhra Pradesh State is facing a grim situation as the Covid-19 positive cases are speedily rising and the total number of cases touched 955 till date.

Significantly, 569 positive cases of 955 cases reported in Kurnool, Guntur and Krishna districts. Out of total 29 Coronavirus deaths, 15 have been taken place in Guntur (8) and Krishna (7) districts alone. Interestingly, two districts Vizainagram and Srikakulam remained Coronavirus-free while 22 positive cases have been reported in port city Visakhapatnam. Official sources said that most of the positive cases persons attended the Tablighi Jamaat religious congregation held at Nizamuddin West in New Delhi in March are from Kurnool, Guntur and Krishna districts.

Principal Secretary of Health Department K S Jawahar Reddy said that 66 per cent of total positive cases of Coronavirus were reported in four districts-Kurnool, Guntur, Krishna and Chittoor. Stating that all the required preventive measures were taken to check the spread of pandemic, he informed that the Coronavirus positive cases are high in 21 urban areas and 60 rural areas. The Covid-19 virus affected 103 mandals of which 56 were declared as red zones, he said. Mr Reddy said that so far more than 48,000 tests had been conducted and a health bulletin was being released on the new positive cases and deaths every day. He said that over 3 lakh Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), 1.40 lakh N-95 masks, 5 lakh surgical masks and 31 lakh gloves had been distributed to the doctors and para-medical staff in the state.
