Amaravati, Mar 16 : Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary Nilam Sawhney on Monday urged the State Election Commission (SEC) to conduct the local body poll as per schedule. In a letter to the SEC, Ms Sawhney said it is better to conduct the election instead of putting the process on hold for a period of six weeks. She said that the state government is prepared for holding the LB poll.
The Chief Secretary said ''it is difficult to estimate the situation'' after six weeks. The government had taken all required precautionary steps to curtail the virus like adequate screening measures, facilities in hospitals and awareness programmes with the support of the Village Volunteers, to handle the growing spread of the COVID-19 virus.
She said that the state government would have provided the entire medical data to the SEC, if they had approached them. She stated that the screening tests are being conducted on every single individual, who was coming to the state from other countries. It may be noted that State Election Commissioner N Ramesh Kumar announced on Sunday that the local body poll has been put on hold by six weeks due to the Covid-19 threat. (UNI)
