Kakinada, Jan 11 : Prof M Ramalingaraju Vice-Chancellor Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Kakinada (JNTUK) has formally launched the high density plantation drive in the university campus by planting a sapling at a function held on Saturday.
The Vice-Chancellor has thanked the Kakinada Sea Ports Ltd (KSPL) which operates the deep water port under privatisation for providing funds under its corporate social environmental responsibility programme.
District forest officer Nandini Salaria who was the guest of honour said that as many as 2020 saplings of fifty species of plants were planted in high density plantation system which gives thick green cover within a short period.
Rector GV Prasadaraju said that a special directorate was set up in the university with the sole aim of developing greenery besides clean environment in the campus. University OSD Prof V.Ravindranath, Chief engineer Prof Yesurathnam, Green campus director Prof Muralikrishna and representatives of one step towards society(OSTS) organization were among those attended.
