Guntur Oct 30 : Telugu Desam party(TDP) national general Secretary and MLC Nara Lokesh embarked on 'Nirasana Deeksha' on Wednesday in protest against the scarcity of sand which halted the construction activity, depriving lakhs of workers of livelihood.

Mr Lokesh, who is the son of former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, embarked on the protest dharna in front of the Collector’s office here. Mr Lokesh sat in the deeksha camp holding placard and wearing a black scarf.

Guntur MP Galla Jayadev, MLC Dokka Manykyavara Prasad, former minister Nakka Ananda Babu were among those present at the deeksha camp. The deeksha of Mr Lokesh began in the morning and will end in the evening, TDP leaders said.

Mr Lokesh deplored that construction workers are ending lives as they are unable to find work since the construction sector was badly damaged due to non-availability of sand. The TDP leaders alleged that artificial scarcity of sand was created by the ruling party leaders to plunder it. He pointed out that Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy did not review the suicides of construction workers. (UNI)
