Double murder case mystery unraveled, one held, ornaments recovered

Kakinada, Oct 7 : The mystery behind the murder of aged couple that took place five months back in this port city, has been successfully unraveled by the two town police by arresting the accused on Monday with the help of a missed call made by him from his cell phone to the couple prior to their death.

The double murder at that time has created sensation in the city as the couple are rich and well known as Nanda tailors. Both the husband Tummalapalli Satyanandam (66) and his wife Mangatayaru (62) residing alone with their two sons settled abroad, were brutally hammered to death and their bodies were found in a pool of blood on June 6 this year. It remained a mystery as no clues are available except the hammer.

The district police administration took it a challenging task and kept all the three police stations staff in the sub division on the job of unfolding the mystery. At last the two town police station SHO P Eswerudu was able to nab the accused with the help of a missing call made to the couple by him.

Giving out the details of the sensational case to media persons at his chambers , East Godavari District Superintendent of Police Adnan Nayeem Asmi said that accused Ambati Veerraju(35) was a native of Voolapalli village in Biccavolu mandal but stayed at the deceased’s house here as a tenant for two years till April 2018.

`The accused worked as a sub broker in share market and lost nearly Rs 50 lakh in `Intra draw’ business. In order to come out of heavy indebtedness, the accused choose to murder the aged couple and steal the gold and silver ornaments.

He made a recce for two days for carrying out his plot to rob, and killing the couple. On that fateful day, he gained entry into the house by jumping from a adjoining building and hit on the head of the old woman who was watching the TV with a hammer killing her on the spot. While he is trying to escape with the booty, the old man has returned. The accused hammered him to death and made good his escape into darkness.

However the modern information technology helped the police in tracing and nabbing him, Mr Asmi said.

While complimenting the entire sub-division police inspectors for solving the murder mystery, the SP has presented cash awards and also appreciation certificates to them.

He gave a special appreciation award for the two town SHO Eswerudu for his untiring efforts. SDPO Karanam Kumar SB DSP Sunkara Muralimohan were among those who attended. (UNI)
