TDP organizes protest dharnas against AP govt’s sand policy

Vijayawada, Aug 30 : Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on Friday organized dharnas across Andhra Pradesh in protest against the errant state government’s sand policy.

The TDP has given a call for state-wide agitation in protest against the scarcity of sand, which has halted the construction activities in the state, depriving livelihood of lakhs of workers. The TDP activists led by their leaders organized dharnas and rallies at various places in the state.

Large number of TDP activists led by former Minister and MLC Nara Lokesh held a dharna at old bus station area in Mangalagiri of Guntur district.  Mr Lokesh interacted with the construction workers and ascertained their difficulties.

Police arrested TDP MLA Nimmala Ramanaidu and shifted him to Elamanchili police station in West Godavari district.

Meanwhile, police detained several TDP leaders, including MLC Bachula Arjunudu in Machilipatnam, former Minister Devineni Umamaheshwar Rao at Gollapudi near here, Badeti Bujji in Eluru as a precautionary measure.

Police also detained former MLA Chintamaneni Prabhakar at Denduluru. Knowing the house arrest of Prabhakar, large number of followers rushed to his house and raised slogans against the police.  Large number TDP activists led by MLC Buddha Venkanna and former MLA Bonda Umamaheshwara Rao staged a dharna at dharna chowk in Lenin Centre here.
