Kadapa Aug 14: In a tragic incident, four persons of a family, including three children, were washed away in the Kundu River at Kundu, Penna and Papagni confluence at Moolagadda village in Kamalapuram mandal on Tuesday. Sub-Inspector (SI) Mallikharjuna Reddy said that the family of one of the deceased Jafar Hussain celebrated Bakrid festival on Monday. He along with his elder brother’s family went to the place for picnic. The SI said that three deceased children, Shahid (10), Chandbash (13) and Jakhir (12), entered the water for playing.

As the stream is heavy, following heavy inflows, the three kids started washing away in the water. On seeing the kids drowning in the river, the deceased Jafar Hussain went to their rescue but he also drowned. The body of Jafar Hussain struck in bushes some distance away and was retrieved. Yerraguntla CI Konda Reddy, SI Mallikharjuna Reddy and revenue officials rushed to the place and launched search operations to trace the bodies of three kids. However, the search operations were stopped as dark descended. A pall of gloom descended at Dargah streen in Kamalapuram.UNI
