Visakhpatnam, Aug 12 : One person was dead, one missing and 15 suffered burn injuries in a major fire broke out in a coastal Jaguar vessel at a single point mooring (SPM) terminal, where crude and oil is handled at the Visakhapatnam port on Monday.
The vessel hired by HPCL, was caught fire at around 11.25 am while carrying out operations and crew members of an offshore support vessel jumping into the water with major burn injuries, frantically calling for help.
The incident has been video-recorded in a mobile by someone. it is reported that 29 crew members jumped into the water and 27 of them were rescued by the Indian Coast Guard.
The body of a crew member was found floating and search operation was still on for the missing crew. Fifteen suffered burn injuries of which, 10 have been admitted with 50 to 60 per cent burns and one had with 90 per cent burns is said to be critical.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.(UNI)
