Vijayawada, Aug 4 : The heavy inflows to the river Godavari continue on Sunday also and second warning signal was declared at Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage at Dowaleswaram on Sunday.
As many as 32 villages in Devipatnam inundated in flood water and road connectivity cut off to 22 tribal villages in Polavaram, Velerupadu and Kukkunuru mandals in WG district.
As a precaution, power supply has been disconnected to these villages whereas four rehabilitation centres were set up by the ITDA at four places and over 5000 were shifted to these centres. Crops in Thousands of acres of land were damaged as flood water gushed into the fields in EG and WG districts.
Godavari Delta Superintendent Engineer Krishna Rao told media that the Arthur Cotton Barrage at Dowaleswaram is receiving 13.20 lakh cusecs of water. Panchayat Raja and Rural Development minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy reviewed the flood situation with the officials of EG and EG districts on Sunday through teleconference.
He directed officials to shift the people living in low-lying areas to safer places. He asked the officials to provide drinking water and essential commodities to the people living in the marooned villages.
Meanwhile, leader of the opposition and former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu asked his cadre to take part in relief operations and asked them to provide help to the flood victims. He deplored the people in flood affected areas live in dark as there is no power supply to the villages.(UNI)
