Amaravati, Apr 7 : Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) RP Thakur said that the police have seized Rs 106 crore since the election model code of conduced was enforced in the state. Chief Secretary LV Subrmanyam held a video conference with the police, revenue and other officials to review the arrangements, being made for the polling to be held on April 11.
Speaking on the occasion, the state police Chief said that Rs106 crore cash, gold and other valuable have been seized by officials across the state. He said that cases regarding violation of model code of conduct have been registered against 3,309 so far. He directed SPs of all districts to make elaborate security arrangements for polling. The DGP said that the next three days are very crucial to the officials and asked them to be on high alert. He directed them to conduct checking of vehicles and searches strictly.
Chief Secretary Subramanyam directed the district Collectors and SPs to take all steps to conduct elections on April 11 in a peaceful atmosphere. He directed them to make arrangements to check the distribution of money and liquor. He asked them to act toughly against those who defy election model code of conduct. The Chief Secretary said that 25 to 30 polling stations were identified as most vulnerable and make special arrangements at the stations.
Chief Electoral Officer Gopal Krishna Dwivedi asked official to take steps to erect tents, arrange chairs and drinking water for voters to wait some time at the polling stations. He asked them to make arrangements to the elderly people, disabled and pregnant women to cast their votes comfortably. Excise special chief secretary D Sambashiva Rao said that sale of liquor was banned from evening 6 pm on April 9, to till 6 pm on April 11. Home Secretary A R Anuradha was among who were present.
