Amaravati, Mar 27 : Andhra Pradesh government has adopted a strategic approach on the orders of Election Commission (EC) transferring three IPS officers, including Director General (Intelligence) A B Venkateswara Rao, Superintendents of Police Rahul Dev Sharma of Kadapa district and A Venkataratnam of Srikulam district by cancelling the transfer of DG (Intelligence).
The government issued GO 716 on Tuesday night, attaching the three IPS officers to the police headquarters, as per the EC directions. However, the government issued another GO 720, exempting the transfer of DG (intelligence), on Wednesday. The government issued another GO exempting the Intelligence and counterintelligence DGs from the purview of EC.
The government of AP did not relieve the DG (intelligence) today. Secretary, general administration, to the government of AP N Srikanth filed an affidavit in the AP High Court questioning the EC's action of transferring the DG (intelligence), who is not connected with the polling duties. Chief Electoral officer of AP Gopal Krishna Dwivedi said that he is taking the developments to the notice of EC. (UNI)
