Police foil bid to murder close associate of TDP MLA ; 3 held

Guntur, Mar 23 : Police arrested three persons when they were moving with weapons to kill a close associate of Telugu Desam Party MLA and seized three revolvers and bullets from them in Gurajala town in this district.

Rural Superintendent of Police Rajasekhar Babu told media here on Saturday that the police arrested N Srinivasa Rao, Purnachandra Rao and Shiva Krishna when they were moving with weapons and waiting for an opportunity to kill Muppana Venkateswarulu, who is a close associate of TDP Gurajala MLA Yarapathineni Srinivas.

Mr Babu said that the TDP MLA went in rally to file his nomination papers on Friday. The MLA’s close associate M Venkateswarulu also participated in the rally. The trio followed to kill him. However, the police took the three persons into custody when they were moving suspiciously.

During the interrogation they confessed that they were planning to murder Venkateswarulu. The police seized three revolvers, 14 bullets, a car, four mobile phones and cash from them.

The SP said N Srinivasa Rao was involved in a murder case and other criminal cases. The accused were produced before media and seized revolvers and cash was displayed. Land settlement issue was said to be the reason for the trio for hatching as plot to kill the MLA’s associate.

The top police official said as a precautionary measure in view of General Election, Bind Over has been taken from 22,000 persons in the district so far. (UNI)
