Tirumala cleansed traditionally for annual fete

Tirumala, Sept 11 : As the Annual Brahmotsavam of Sri Venkateswara Swamy is set to commence from September 13, Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam, the traditional temple cleansing fete was observed on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, TTD Executive Officer Anil Kumar Singhal said, before Anivara Asahanam, Ugadi, Vaikuntha Ekadasi and annual brahmotsavams every year, a special mixture made of ingredients like Kichiligadda (a tuber), turmeric, vermilion, camphor is prepared and is smeared on the roots and walls of the sanctum and other sub temples".

Meanwhile, this celestial fete is performed as a purificatory festival today ahead of Brahmotsavam. Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam was observed for over three hours on Tuesday. Darshanam for pilgrims commenced after 11am.
