Children, many of us establish our relationship with others on the basis of profit and loss. In the midst of acquiring wealth, we often forget the wealth of love. Love is the wealth that makes our lives most divine. Love is the real goodness of life.
In God’s creation, many things are blessed with the ability to both allure and make others happy. For example, the beauty of butterflies, the fragrance of flowers and the sweetness of honey attract anyone and spread happiness. This beauty, fragrance and sweetness come from within, not from outside. But what is the state of the most divine creation called human? If he needs fragrance on his body, he has to apply perfume. If he wants to be beautiful, he needs to put on good clothes and make-up. In spite of all of this, what comes from within humans are foul-smelling impurities. But if we try, we can spread happiness, comfort and good energy to others. The way to achieve this is through good thoughts, loving words, a smiling nature and selfless actions.
This life can end at any time. This awareness helps us to have right vision. Then, even with death standing before us, we will be able to face it with happiness.
Doctors normally tell patients with fatal diseases like cancer, “You will only live for the next three to six months.” In that moment of seeing death before them, they get the realisation that no material gain or fame will come with them and that their only salvation is in God. With that realisation, a big change happens within. They develop a mind that loves everyone. They want to forgive those who caused them pain. They seek forgiveness from those they have hurt.
Some such people have told Amma, “Amma, for the few days I have left, I want to live loving everyone. I have not been able to truly love my wife and children. Now I want to give them a lot of love. I want to love those who hate me and those whom I hated. Not only that, I have hurt many people and I want to ask for their forgiveness as well.”
All of us have the ability to love and forgive others like this. We don’t have to wait for death to be on our doorstep. If we try starting today, we will be able to awaken this attitude.
It is not wealth or fame but love, compassion and caring that will make our life divine. Today, the human race needs this one realisation.
