 Mar 13, 2018

The Kochi city police in Kerala have registered a case against Cardinal George Alencherry, major archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church. He is also the head of the Archdiocese of  Ernakulam-Angamaly.

Apart from the Cardinal, three others also booked in connection with multiple shady land deals in which the archdiocese met with a huge financial loss to the tunes of crores of rupees. The case has been taken under IPC sections 120 B(criminal conspiracy), 415 (cheating) and 420(dishonestly inducing delivery of property).

The police have registered the case following an order of the Kerala High Court on a writ petition against the Cardinal. The High Court then ruled that there was prima facie evidence to indicate criminal conspiracy, breach of trust and misappropriation of money in the land deals.

The three others who included in the case are Father Joshy Puthuva, Father Sebastian Vadakkumpadan, and the real estate dealer, Saju Varghese.
