Make in India' fails to take off in defence: Parl Panel

Many of the projects under 'Make in India' flagship programme of the government which aims at achieving greater indigenisation in defence sector face the bleak possibility of getting foreclosed, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence said in a report on Tuesday.

BJP-leader Major General BC Khanduri headed Parliamentary panel found that there was no adequate budget made to support in making defence sector self-reliant.

The Indian Army has earmarked 25 projects for 'Make in India' for indeginized production. "No substantial progress was made in providing adequate budget for all those projects identified under 'Make in India'," the report tabled in Parliament on Tuesday said.

The Committee also urged the defence ministry to take appropriate steps to financially support the indeginization efforts of Army. (UNI)
