ED approaches SC against DHC order on Karti

 Mar 13, 2018

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday approached the Supreme Court against the Delhi High Court order, which had granted relief to Karti Chidambaram in the money laundering case registered against him in the INX media case.

The Delhi High Court had in its order recently restrained the investigating agency, ED, from arresting Karti Chidambaram till the next date of hearing till March 20, of his petition questioning the ED probe in the matter. Karti is an accused in the INX media case and seeking bail in it.

It is however immediately unclear as to when the plea filed by the ED would come up for hearing before the apex court.

Meanwhile, in another development in the INX media case on Tuesday, the Delhi High Court Judge, Justice Indermeet Kaur recused from hearing Karti Chidambaram’s bail plea. The matter was referred to another bench for hearing and was likely to come up for hearing on Tuesday.

Karti (the son of former Finance Minister in the Congress-led UPA Government, P Chidambaram) is an accused for his alleged involvement in the FIPB (Foreign Investment Promotion Board) clearance for Rs 305-crore irregular Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the INX media case in 2007, the CBI, the investigating agency, claimed.

The apex court had earlier in its detailed order on November 20, last year allowed Karti's plea to go to the UK from December 01 to 10 last year for the purpose of his daughter's admission with certain terms and conditions. For the central government, Additional Solicitor General (ASG) and senior Supreme Court lawyer, Tushar Mehta, is appearing before the apex court. (UNI)
