Jeetendra moves HP court to seek copy of FIR

 Mar 12, 2018

Former Bollywood star Jeetendra has moved a local court here, seeking copy of an FIR lodged against him under Section 354 of IPC by an all women police station, related to an incident of 1971.

Through his local counsel here, the yesteryear actor alleged that despite his counsel YK Thakur meeting Deputy SP Pramod Shukla with an authority letter, seeking copy of an FIR lodged against him under the First Mahila Police Station of BCS, Shimla, his plea has been turned down.

Thakur also handed to Shukla, the copy of the Supreme Court order of September 7, 2016, stating that the district SP is bound to provide him the copy of FIR in the matter. Challenging the action of police, Jeetendra moved an application before Chief Judicial Magistrate Shimla on March 9, in the matter.

As the CJM court was vacant on Monday, Mr Thakur's application was transferred to the court of Judicial Magistrate 1st Class Vatsala Choudhary, to be heard on Tuesday. First Mahila Police Station BCS Shimla began a Preliminary Enquiry against the veteran Bollywood actor on the complaint by a victim, who came forth after 47 years, charging the latter with sexual harassment. The victim, who is related to the Bollywood star, alleged that the incident happened in January 1971, when she was 18 and Jeetendra was 28.

She said Jeetendra "arranged" for the victim to join him from New Delhi to Shimla on the set of his movie, without the complainant's "awareness". The victim claimed that on the night they reached Shimla, Jeetendra returned to the room in an inebriated state, joined the two separate beds in the hotel room and sexually assaulted her.

The allegation comes amid the 'MeToo' campaign, as part of which women have come out about facing sexual abuse at the hands of powerful men. While several ladies have accused Hollywood's powerful men, the Hindi film industry -- while admitting the prevalence of abuse -- have not named and shamed as openly. Jeetendra, now 75, is a well-known name in the Hindi film industry. He is also a film producer, and father of filmmaker Ekta Kapoor and actor Tusshar Kapoor. The accused denied the charges, alleging that the matter pertained to some family property dispute. (UNI)
