Jai Ram Thakur budget relies on mega sale of liquor : Cong

 Mar 13, 2018

The Congress Legislative party has come down heavily on the Jai Ram Thakur government for bringing major shift in its revenue generation from Liquor sale, alleging that budget resources rely upon mega sale of liquor to levy heavy tax, moreover, such provisions would impact adversely the youth and the women of the state.

Initiating the four-day-long debate on the Himachal Pradesh Budget estimates for financial year 2018-19, presented by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on March 9 here in the state Assembly, Congress Legislative Party Leader Mukesh Agnihotri said the BJP wants to compete with the last Congress rule, which sold Rs 400 crore liquor through government liquor vends, targeting to sell Rs 1600 crore per annum.

''This focus is not only against the women, however, it would ruin the youth as they would be allured by this anti-prohibition drive by the Thakur government, with motive to generate more state resources,'' the CLP leader pointed out.

Cautioning Thakur not to mislead by the clever bureaucracy and work according to own will, Mr Agnihotri said that the bureaucracy does not want to continue the number of development works and institutions, started by the last Congress rule.Referring to the recent protests at Janjehali, the Congress leader said the Chief Minister just faced the wrath of public outrage, as people of his own constituency forced him to reverse his decision, after closing of SDM office, opened by the last rule.(UNI)
