Prannoy and Srikanth Advance into Semis

It was a good day for India as shuttlersH.S.Prannoy and K. Srikanth won their matches to enter the semi finals of the Jakarta Open Super SeriesPremier.

Prannoy stunned Olympic champ Chen Long of China 21-18, 16-21,21-19. Prannoy had never defeated Long in their three earlier encounters. Thursday he showed tremendous control and great diving skills as he fought back to win the game. ‘it was physically very tough today. It was quite tiring towards the end especially in the last few points. I was trying to focus hard’, Prannoy commented after his victory in the 1 hour 30 minutes battle. Prannoy will now take on the winner of the match between Japanese qualifier Kazumasa Sakai and England’s Rajiv Ouseph.

Compatriot Srikanth too entered the last four round of the tournament with a 21-15, 21-14 straight set win over Chinese Taipei’s Tzu Wei Wang. Now an all Indian Final possibility looms large if both Indians win their semi matches. Both are trainees of the Pullela Gopichand Academy at Hyderabad. Srikanth now faces world no.1 Wan Ho Son of Korea. ‘ It was a good match. I am happy that my attack worked well’, said a smiling Srikanth.
