Asthana appointed as Vigilance Director of Kerala

 Feb 12, 2018

DGP Dr N C Asthana was appointed as new Director of Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau in Kerala.

Dr N C Asthana, a 1986 batch IPS officer of the Kerala cadre, was on central deputation. He was appointed the Special Additional Secretary (CFT) in the Ministry of Home Affairs in March 2017. N C Asthana's appointment was in the wake of the controversy that Kerala DGP Loknath Behra was holding the post of VACB Director for the last 11 months without the consent of the Central Government's Personnel Department.

According to the Vigilance Rules, the VACB Director post should not left vacant for more than six months. However, DGP Behra has been holding the post since the last 11 months leading to another controversy that his continuation in the post was aiming to settling cases of corrupt people. Sources said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has signed the order appointing Asthana as the new VACB Director.
