Yusuf Ali becomes second largest shareholder of CIAL

NRI business tycoon, Yusuf Ali, has increased his shareholding in Cochin International Airport Ltd from 7.8 per cent to 9.73 per cent by buying 71 lakh more shares for an undisclosed sum during the last financial year.  He has become the second largest shareholder of Cochin Airport, first privately held airport in the country, the first being N.V. George who has 11.96 per cent of the shares.

In the CIAL, Government of Kerala owns 32.41 per cent of shares. Others are Synthite Industries 6.53 per cent, BPCL 3.43 per cent, HUDCO 3.28, per cent SBT (Now SBI) 3.26 per cent and Air India 3.26 per cent.

The airport proposal was conceived and major part of the work including land acquisition, which is the toughest task in Kerala, was done when K. Karunakaran was the chief minister of the state.
