WhatsApp enables money transfer in India

 Feb 11, 2018

Now users of WhatsApp [WA] can transfer money within India using this facility. For this all they have to do is link their bank account to their WA account via Unified Payments Interface [UPI]. They can make payments then straight into another WA user’s bank account through a WhatsApp chat. The feature is being rolled out gradually and will be available to all shortly it is hoped. In its present rollout this facility is only for personal use and not for business purposes. For example, you may use it to transfer money into a friend or family member’s account but you may not use it to book your  tickets for travel as of now.

UPI is a digital interbank fund transfer system developed by the National Payments Corporation of India. It has its own UPI enabled payment app ‘Bhim’ already.
