Prannoy stuns Wei

Indian shuttler H. S. Prannoy played masterfully to overcome world no. 3 and top seed Lee Chong Weiand move into the Quarters of the Indonesia Open SSP in Jakarta on Thursday.

Prannoy made one of the biggest upsets of the tournament so far. A talented and aggressive player, he is ranked world number 25. It came as a surprise to many who watched Prannoy outclass the multiple Olympic medalist in a short span of 40 minutes. Such was his form. He won 21-10, 21-18. ‘Lee looked ordinary today and I took my chances’, said a delighted Prannoy. He now plays Olympic champion Chen Long of China.

K. Srinath registered an impressive 21-15, 20-22, 21-16 over the fourth seed Denmark’s Jan O Jorgensan, to join Prannoy in the quarter finals.

In the women’s section it was disappointment all the way. Both Saina Nehwal and P.V.Sindhu suffered shock defeats. Saina lost to Thailand’s NitchaonJindapol 15-21, 21-16,16-21. Sindhu lost to Beiwen Zhang of USA 21-15, 12-21,18-21.
