 Jun 16, 2017

The death toll in Kerala due to Dengue fever has risen to 106 with two more people having died in Thiruvananthapuram in the last twenty four hours.

The latest deaths were those of Ramesh Ram aged (38) and Nizar (24).Both deaths have been reported from the state capital Thiruvananthapuram.

Thiruvananthapuram district has recorded the highest number of deaths due to Dengue fever since January this year, followed by Malappuram and Palakkad districts. On the whole twelve lakh people were infected by Dengue fever this year. As the death toll rises, the preventive measures by the state health department are found to be inadequate and ineffective in facing the Dengue threat, Making matters worse, the Kudumbasree workers in Kozhikode district with considerable number of Dengue cases have threatened to launch an indefinite strike demanding that they be absorbed by the Kozhikode Corporation as at least temporary workers.

The strike will paralyse cleaning operations in the district
