One of the unintended consequences of the Saudi Arabia-Qatar face-off is Pakistan Prime Minster Nawaz Sharif’s attempts to broker peace among the Islamic states. Soon after he discussed with the King Salman the latest developments in the region and the ‘need to fight against extremism and terrorism in the interests of all Muslims and the Ummah’, the Saudi King asked a blunt question,’ Are you with us or with Qatar?’
This happened after Sahrif said that Pakistan would not take   sides in the brewing crisis in West Asia.
Saudi Arabia has accused Qatar of supporting terrorist groups. This came soon after American President Donald Trump made a visit to Riyadh. Pakistan however said that it would be ready to use its good offices and influence over Qatar to defuse the situation in the region. For this purpose Nawaz Sharif said  he would be undertaking a visit to Qatar. Having failed in his mission to the Saudi capital it remains to be seen how his new peace initiative would succeed.
