GST to raise ticket rates

Watching movies will become more expensive after the Goods and Services Tax (GST) gets implemented on July 1 2017. A flat 28% GST was levied on all movie tickets earlier. But with Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announcing new GST rates, tickets costing 100 and less will be under the 18% slab and those costing above 100 will continue in the 28% slab. What has created discontent among the industry players is the likely implementation of a Local Body Tax (LBT) which is variable and will make movies the only service with dual taxation.
