Congress protest boomerangs

 Jun 23, 2017

The 'Janakeeya Yaatra (people's journey) on the recently launched Kochi Metro, organized by Congress in Kerala as a mark of protest against non-invitation of party leader  and former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy to the inauguration by Prime Minister  has boomeranged.

As the yatra proved counter-productive, Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala who had accompanied the former Chief Minister in the protest, expressed regret for having caused inconvenience if any to the passengers or loss to the Kochi Metro. Meanwhile Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) has directed one of its senior officials to enquire and submit a report on the protest journey within next three days.

KMRL sources said that the journey had cost the metro a loss to the tune of several   lakhs of rupees. Escalators and cross bars were damaged as Congress workers thronged to the platforms. Also the indoor plants were destroyed. The total passenger capacity of the metro rail is 925. But the Congress workers who escorted the former Chief Minister and the Opposition leader on the rail numbered over 1500.Only around 200 people had availed passenger tickets.

The rush caused  great inconvenience to other passengers.
