INSV Tarini to arrive in Goa on May 21

The Indian Naval Sailing Vessel (INSV) Tarini will arrive at Goa shores on May 21, marking the successful completion of the first-ever circumnavigation by an all Indian women crew.

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will welcome them at INS Mandovi in Goa, the Navy said. Presently, the vessel is 425 km away from Goa.

“Position of INSV Tarini at 0600 hours this morning. Distance to Goa is 230 NM (425 km on ground). Good progress made in last 12 hours,” Indian Navy Spokesperson said in a tweet.

The vessel is being led by Lt Commander Vartika Joshi, and the crew comprises Lt Commanders Pratibha Jamwal, P Swathi, and Lieutenants S Vijaya Devi, B Aishwarya and Payal Gupta.

The expedition named, 'Navika Sagar Parikrama', is in consonance with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's idea to empower women in every sphere of life. (UNI)
