‘Praja Sankalpa Yatra’ in AP: YSRCP’s Jagan plans ahead

‘Praja Sankalpa Yatra’ in AP: YSRCP’s Jagan plans ahead

 May 15, 2018

As political turmoil haunts the state, YSR’s Jagan Mohan Reddy of Congress Party is all set to usurp AP’s CM Chandrababu Naidu. The leader is seen deploying all his election strategies before the 2019 state polls.

Jagan, 6 months past his ‘Praja Sankalpa Yatra’ (people’s determination journey), the politician had crossed 2000 km on foot marking a fierce political opposition to the ruling party of the state TDP. As the TDP’s rift with BJP remains, after the TDP felt disappointed with the treatment their state faced, they had decided to cut off alliance with the centre.

Jagan is seen taking advantage of this rift and has been making waves of political movements making sure that his name stays in the headlines. He had even crossed paths with actor turned politician Pawan Kalyan.

The Leader of the Opposition embarked on his Yatra in November last year and reached the 2,000 km mark in Eluru on Monday.

The party is preparing itself to unseat the CM who is engaged in a sour battle with the Centre over granting Special Category status to the state.

“The TDP government failed to implement even a single promise. There is crisis across various sectors. Chandrababu Naidu’s negligence is the prime reason along with the union governments. While we treat both as the same, we must say that TDP is shifting the blame towards the BJP for every mistake they've done," says YSRCP MLA Gadikota Srikanth Reddy, referring to the heated TDP campaign against the Centre.

The strategies deployed by Jagan include reaching out to farming and weaving communities. The leader has expressed his ire over the issue of unemployment and has been able to catch the eye of many political observers. Assurances of welfare schemes are being doled out side by side.

The YSRCP is keen on making a huge comeback after their embarrassing defeat in the Nandyal by-election and the Kakinada municipal elections.

“Jagan's yatra and the current political situation, such as the TDP’s terms with the BJP have definitely become a disadvantage to Chandrababu Naidu. But Jagan's moves in the future will be the defining factor in 2019. The whole episode of SCS and the raw deal from the Union Budget have showcased BJP in a critical position as the party which denied Andhra Pradesh what it deserves. While it is premature to conclude things, Jagan has to carry the momentum; the yatra definitely gave him a core place in politics in his 8 year political career," says Dr Pullarao, a political observer.

The YSR had been accused of having tie ups with the BJP after Jagan had stated that he would support those who provide AP with the Special Category Status.

The Leader of the Opposition had also launched a blistering attack campaign at the CM for misgovernance and for not fulfilling his election promises. His yatra has been receiving acceptance from rural areas and has a self professed 1000 km left to cross and five coastal districts to cover, whereas CM Naidu is preparing a party congregation in Vijayawada.
