BJP set to emerge single largest party, CM trailing in Chamundeshwari

Having put up a determined fight to wrest power in the key southern state, the BJP is set to emerge as a single largest party in Karnataka with the ruling Congress cutting sorry figure as Chief Minister Siddaramaiah trailing in Chamundeshwari and facing a stiff fight in Badami.

According to trends available till 1000 hours, the BJP established leads in 101 seats while Congress was leading only in 65. However, the trend available with Election Commission Indicates that the BJP was ahead in 89 constituencies, Congress in 51` constituencies, JD(S) in 35 seats and others two. The vote share saw BJP securing 38 per cent and the Congress 37 per cent. Importantly, for the games in the corridors of power in Bengaluru - the JD(S) led by father-son duo H D Deve Gowda and H D Kumaraswamy seemed to be fairly comfortable in 40 seats, early trends showed.

All eyes now would be on JD(S) - who has earlier also played king makers and allied with both though the Bharatiya Janata Party may not need JDS support to form the ministry if one goes by the present trend. A senior JD(S) leader made it clear that the party is in consultations with other parties on future course. Senior Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Ashok Gehlot have reached in Bangalore and are in touch with JDS leaders. The BJP central leadership has deputed Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar to Bengaluru. In Delhi, Javadekar had a one-on-one meeting with BJP national president Amit Shah before leaving for Bangalore. UNI
