In hockey some relief

 Jun 19, 2017

While there was disappointment on the cricket front in the India versus Pakistan match on Sunday, the Indian hockey team brought some joy as they beat Pakistan 7-1 in the Hockey World League.

A confident India demolished a hapless Pakistan to post a facile win. With this win India is at the top of Pool B ahead of The Netherlands.

For India Harmanpreet Singh,Talwinder Singh and Akashdeep Singh scored two goals each. Harmanpreet Singh struck in the 13th and 33rd minute. Talwinder scored in the 21st and 24th minute while Akashdeep Singh scored in the 47th and 59th minute. India had 7 goals to their credit against Pakistan‘s sole goal scored by Mohammed Umar Bhutta in the 57th minute.

The match at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre was clearly a one sided affair. Though Pakistan made a bright start, their domination lasted only for 10 minutes. They even earned a penalty corner but the strike sailed over the bar as they failed to convert it. As the match continued India took control and Pakistan lamely played to catch up with them.

Harmanpreet gave India the lead by converting the penalty corner in the 13th minute. Talwinder then scored two quick goals in the 21st and 24th minutes ably assisted by Satbir Singh and S V Sunil. After the change of ends also India continued with the same superior style. 3 minutes into the second half Harmanpreet scored to extend the lead further.

Pakistan failed to convert the many opportunities they got thanks to the vigilant and agile AkashChikte guarding the Indian goal post.

Akashdeep scored a brilliant field goal and 2 minutes later, Pradeep More struck past Pakistan’s Amjad Ali. Though Umar Bhutta scored for Pakistan in the 57th minute, Akashdeep drove in the last nail with a fantastic strike in the 59th minute. A thrilling finish by India as the hooter sounded.
