Army’s JAKLI Regiment affiliated with INS Kochi & IAF’s 51 squadron

Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAKLI) Regiment of Indian Army on Sunday formally affiliated with Indian Naval Ship (INS) Kochi, a Guided Missile Destroyer and Srinagar-based 51 Squadron of Indian Air Force (IAF) that operates MiG 21 Bison fighter aircraft.

INS Ganga till her decommissioning in March 2018 was affiliated to this Regiment.

On the Raising Day of JAKLI Regiment, Colonel Commandants Lt Gen Satish Dua led the Tri-Services affiliation ceremony at India Gate here.

“Another Tri-Services synergy... one is happy to head,” Lt Gen Dua tweeted.

“Colonel Commandant of JAKLI and CISC Lt Gen Satish Dua and Capt AP Shaji Kutty Commanding Officer INS Kochi exchanged crests and mementos on the occasion,” the Indian Navy said in a tweet.

INS Kochi is the second ship of the Kolkata-class stealth guided-missile destroyers built at Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL) located in Mumbai.

After undergoing extensive sea trials, she was commissioned to Indian Navy service on September 30, 2015.

JAKLI was the first battalion of Army to be raised during post independence. The battalion has deep roots in J&K and was once part of the J&K State Forces.

Rising on April 15, 1948 during the turbulent days of cross border raids into the state, as a voluntary force then called as the First Jammu and Kashmir Militia Force.

During operation MEGH RAHAT in August 2014, JAKLI Regiment Centre and 51 Squadron were jointly deployed in Kashmir for rescue and flood relief operations and together evacuated thousands of people to safety and provided them relief and assistance. (UNI)
