All is not well with Shah Rukh Khan's KKR

All is not well with Shah Rukh Khan's KKR

 Apr 15, 2018

All is not well with the two times winners Kolkata Knight Riders, especially after their two back to back defeats, before hosting the resurgent Delhi Daredevils (DD) at Eden Gardens here on Monday.

Wicket-keeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik donning the captain's arms band for the first time did start well at home defeating Virat Kohli led Royal Challengers Bangalore by
five wickets chasing 176.

However, the Shah Rukh Khan owned KKR could not defend their 202-run against Mahindra Singh Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings despite Andre Russel's blasting 88-run-in-38-ball in the away match.

The purple side fumbled again in batting at home on Saturday night in the rain affected play. They picked up only 138 runs in 20-over game and the course they made easy for Sunrisers Hyderabad, who went atop the eight-team table with all three wins in home and away plays.

Delhi Daredevils under left handed-batsman Gautam Gambhir rose to the occasion in 3rd match defeating Mumbai Indians in a nail-biting last-ball score in Mumbai. Rohit Sharma's side now have suffered three straight defeats, all in the final over to boot, and find themselves stuck at the bottom of the table.

DD"s important win comes at a right time when Gautam Gambhir flies back to Kolkata on Sunday for Monday's match. Gambhir, who led KKR to two wins in 2012 and 2014, has a sore to settle with his former side in Kolkata.

KKR is captained by Dinesh Karthik, who has ample captaining experience. He is also an able batsman and wicketkeeper.

Delhi Daredevils, on the other hand, have managed to wrest away Gautam Gambhir from KKR. It is a major coup for DD, as Gambhir was credited for turning the fortunes of Kolkata Knight Riders and extracting the best out of inexperienced players in the previous edition of IPL.

Under him Jason Roy was Delhi's nerve centre during chasing to MI 194. Roy held nerve at crucial time ans showed how valuable he can be with a sizzling display during the chase.

The right-hander smashed an unbeaten 91 off 53 balls, a knock that included six fours and as many sixes, to help Delhi pull off a tricky chase.

Delhi Daredevils have a shrewd and experienced captain in Gautam Gambhir. The side has a strong batting lineup with Gambhir, Colin Munro, Jason Roy, Glenn Maxwell, Chris Morris, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant.

The problem is with their bowling as they do not have a pacer to support Trent Boult now that Kagiso Rabada is out with an injury. Hence, the heavy lifting will be done by the batsmen, who will either chase down a high total or set a high score to make it impossible for KKR batsmen. Play kick-off at 2000 Hours. (UNI)
