 Apr 14, 2018

Charging the Congress of insulting the founding father of the Coinstitution and Dalit icon, Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday alleged that the party made efforts to erase Dr Ambedkar's legacy.

Speaking after inaugurating the Dr. Ambedkar National Memorial at 26, Alipur Road here , the PM said congress constantly insulted Dr Ambedkar. ''The Congress made all its efforts to enure that the memory of Dr Ambedkar was erased from history books, This is a harsh truth that when Dr Babasaheb was alive, the Congres left not stone unturned in insulting him.''

The PM said the Jawaharlal Nehru government ignored him and forced him to resign from the Cabinet. ''Dr Ambedkar had resigned from the Cabinet during Jawaharlal Nehru’s tenure as he was not made part of any Cabinet committee.

Dr Babasaheb had, in his resignation letter, written that''I have not been made party of any committee of the Cabinet - neither the foreign affairs committee not the committee on defence. When the committee on Economic affairs was being formed I thought that I would be definitely be made a part of this committee. But I was left out even from that committee",''the PM said.

The PM said when Ambedkar contested Lok Sabha elections, the Congress put its full weight behind in defeating him. He added that former prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru campaigned against him. He said chanting ‘Baba Saheb’s’ name is a compulsion for Congress as it intends to win elections. (UNI)
